BIOGRAPHY
I am currently engaged in doctoral research at Nottingham University Business School's International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility in the UK. In addition, I am a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of London School of Management's Centre for Research into Sustainability, and External Examiner of the University of Cambridge Programme for Industry's Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Business.
Before commencing my PhD, I was Director of Sustainability Services at KPMG in South Africa, where my team and I advised and audited corporate clients on their social, environmental and ethical policies and practices. Prior to this, I was co-founder of the South African New Economics (SANE) Foundation, and a strategy analyst for the international management consultancy, Gemini Consulting (now Cap Gemini Ernst & Young), as well as working in banking and market research. See my profile as a Consultant for more information on my areas of expertise and sector-based client experience.
I have an Honours degree in Business Science from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and an MSc in Human Ecology from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. In addition, I have completed short courses in Global Selling Skills, Project Management, Management Development, Environmental Auditing, ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems), Environmental Law, Strategy Analysis and Consulting Skills.
I write and publish widely on issues relating to corporate social responsibility, environmental sustainability, business ethics, inspirational leadership and personal meaning. I am the author of three books, namely Business Frontiers: Social Responsibility, Sustainable Development and Economic Justice, South Africa: Reasons to Believe (with Guy Lundy) and Beyond Reasonable Greed: Why Sustainable Business is a Much Better Idea! (with Clem Sunter). See my profile as a Writer for more information on my published works including full text articles.
I am a professional speaker and am regularly invited to lecture, deliver conference papers and give corporate presentations on my areas of special interest and expertise. I have lectured at the Universities of Cape Town, Stellenbosch and Rhodes in South Africa; Cambridge, Cardiff and Nottingham in the UK; and Turku in Finland. See my profile as a Speaker for a sample listing of my presentations.
I was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and grew up in Cape Town, South Africa. I enjoy travelling, reading, writing poetry, walking in nature, listening to music and watching sport. I have a deep passion for the continent of Africa and its people.
POETRY
In many ways, my poetry is what I live for. It is my chosen way of creative expression. Several of my poems have been published in anthologies and selected for exhibitions at the Academy of Management Arts Academy in New Orleans (Quest for Gold and Paralysed).
