Biography

Chris Chameleon first exploded onto the South African stage not as a musician, but as a young actor in 1989 winning South Africa's largest national acting competition. He spent the ensuing 5 years performing in more than 20 television series, as well as being the lead vocalist and bassist for the eclectic band Blue Chameleon. At the end of 1997 the allure of the spotlight seduced him back to the stage, this time as the frontman of one of South Africa's proudest musical exports, the monki punk band Boo!. In 7 years Boo! performed 800 gigs in 17 countries, in places all over the USA and even Hungary and Croatia. In 2004 his colleagues decided to hang up their instruments, which was the cue for Chameleon to go at it alone. His meteoric rise as a solo artist commenced with the best selling, and critics' favourite album 'Ek Herhaal Jou,' a composition of iconic 60's Afrikaans poet Ingrid Jonker's works. ‘Ek Herhaal Jou' was nominated for a 2006 South African Music Award in the Best Adult Contemporary Afrikaans Album category. June 2006 saw the simultaneous release of his first English solo rock album, ‘Shine', an album that is loaded with power, passion and beautiful melodies, as well as a second Afrikaans album, ‘7 de Hemel'. which consists of songs performed by the versatile Chameleon as the popular character Liam in the SABC 2 television soap opera ‘7 de Laan'. In South Africa in July 2006 both Afrikaans albums reached gold status (sales exceeding 25,000 copies) and 7de hemel reached platinum status a month later (sales exceeding 50 000). His live shows continue to sell out and Chris Chameleon is proving to be the hottest ticket in South Africa, and soon to be, the rest of the world. If this last year is anything to go by, Chris Chameleon seems set to become one of the most important personality. Innovative, prolific, endlessly creative, Chris Chameleon is set to take the world by storm.
